Yes — the core of MarkUp is free forever. Install it from the Chrome Web Store and get all seven drawing tools, the callout and changelog system, clipboard export, and workspace file save. No account required. If you want your AI agent to read your annotations directly, MarkUp Pro adds the MCP server — see Pricing.

What browsers does it work on?

Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Arc — any Chromium-based browser. A Safari Web Extension is coming soon.

Does my data leave my computer?

Your annotations and the pages you mark up never leave your device — they’re stored in your browser’s local extension storage. The only network request MarkUp makes is to verify a MarkUp Pro license key with our payment processor (Polar), and only if you enter one. No annotation data, page content, or browsing activity is ever transmitted. Full details at markupextension.com/privacy.

Does it work with Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot?

Yes. MarkUp exports a PNG image and a plain markdown file — readable by any AI assistant that accepts image or file input. Use clipboard export to paste directly, or workspace export to drop files into a Claude Code or other agent workflow folder.

Can I use it on iPad?

MarkUp for Chrome is a desktop extension. A Safari Web Extension with Apple Pencil support is on the roadmap — pen pressure will map to stroke width.

Is there a team or business version?

MarkUp Pro is available now — it adds the MarkUp MCP server so your AI agent reads your annotations directly ($6/mo or $149 lifetime; see Pricing). A dedicated team/agency plan is in the works — email [email protected] if you want team features and we’ll keep you posted.
